Grade 7 Islamic Studies - Understanding the Charity of Eid
Zakat al-Fitrah is a special charity that must be paid by every Muslim at the end of Ramadan, before Eid prayer. It is obligatory on every Muslim who has enough to support themselves and their dependents.
It purifies the person who fasted from any mistakes, idle talk, or imperfections during Ramadan. It completes our worship and makes our fasting acceptable to Allah.
It ensures that poor people have enough food to celebrate Eid with happiness and dignity. No one should be hungry on Eid day!
Best time: Last days of Ramadan, before Eid prayer
Latest time: Before the Eid prayer begins
Not valid: After Eid prayer (becomes regular charity, not Zakat al-Fitrah)
The amount is based on staple food (rice, wheat, dates, etc.):
Family members: Father, Mother, 3 children (ages 12, 8, 4)
Question: How many people must they pay Zakat al-Fitrah for?
Answer: 5 people (all family members, including children)
